Third country nationals should take care to set up an appointment with the nearest Hungarian
consulate for visa application.
For self-funded applicants, the application for MSc programs of Pázmány ITK closed
on 31 March 2022.
SH, SCYP and HDS scholarship applicants:
Entry examinations are over, currently Tempus Public Foundation is evaluating which applicants
will be awarded the scholarships. Please see each scholarship's deadline for this on
their website.
Application for the Image Processing and Computer Vision (IPCV) MSc is now closed and
admittable applicants have been notified. Application for the 2023-2024 academic year is expected
to open in November 2022.
Prospective Erasmus+ students nominated by their home institution should submit their applications
via Mobility Online by 31 May 2022.
Citizens of EEA member states may travel to Hungary without a visa. However, pandemic related restrictions may apply, please check under Covid Related Restrictions.
For the duration of your studies at Pázmány you will need to obtain a registration certificate (in Hungarian: “regisztrációs igazolás”) and an address card ("lakcímet igazoló hatósági igazolvany") from the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (OIF, formerly called Immigration Office) in Budapest after you arrive in Hungary.
Important: Please note that you must arrange this within 90 days after arrival in Hungary.

Upon receiving your Letter of Admission, please contact the
closest Hungarian consulate (listed below) as soon as possible to
launch your visa application. The visa process takes at least
1-2 months, especially with the current pandemic situation. Note
that if you do not arrive by the given deadline, you will not be
able to enroll and begin your studies, and lose your right to
your scholarship. As soon as you have a visa appointment,
immediately notify your international coordinator. In general,
keep your international coordinator updated on your visa
proceedings. Otherwise we cannot help you if any problems
arise.
Please request a type D visa for the full duration of the study
program. Students who are citizens of countries outside the EEA
need to apply for a long-term visa for study purposes
(in Hungarian: “tartózkodási engedély átvételére jogosító
vízum”). Please request a type D visa for the full duration of

Please note that this type of visa is a special single entry
visa that enables its holder to apply for a residence permit for
study purposes after enrolling in a university in Hungary. This
visa, contrary to the Schengen tourist visa, can only be
obtained from the Hungarian consulates listed here.

Students entering Hungary on a long stay (D-visa) need to visit the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (Immigration Office) within 30 days of arrival to obtain their residence permit.
The International Relations Office of the Faculty will assist incoming students in obtaining their residence permits in Hungary. Further details on the authorization process will be communicated during the Welcome Week at Pázmány.

The rules introduced in September 2020 (to which various exemptions were added later) have been withdrawn. Now you can travel to Hungary same as before Covid if you have the normally required travel documents.
Currently mask wearing is not mandatory on the premises of the University and in public places, except for hospitals and pharmacies. However, it still makes sense to wear a mask in crowded spaces, as in public transport, or where you are are bound to meet more vulnerable people. Regulations are subject to constant change. Therefore, please regularly inform yourself of the latest pandemic related instructions on the University's website and official English website of the Hungarian government.
Expected date of the Welcome Week: 5-9 September 2022 (to be confirmed in the summer of 2022)
We are organizing a Welcome Week for all our new international students. It includes several programs, which are mandatory for new students, such as enrollment, academic and administrative info sessions as well as the official Opening Ceremony. Compulsory programs will be complemented by various optional social activities to meet your fellow students, including sightseeing. The detailed program will be shared in August.
Enrollment:
You will be required to enroll in the beginning of the Welcome Week. The documents below are mandatory for enrollment. If you do not have a mandatory document for reasons out of the ordinary, please notify us as soon as possible!
IMPORTANT: You cannot enroll without the mandatory documents!
Mandatory documents for enrollment:
original hard copy of BSc certificate with its notarized English translation if it is not in English)
original English proficiency certificate, min. B2 level according to CEFR.
If you completed your BSc/MSc studies fully in English, you may prove that by
presenting an official document certifying it. If adequate, this replaces the official
English language certificate.
(The Oxford Placement Test commonly used in Syria is
NOT ACCEPTABLE for entry to our MSc programs)
Passport (if possible, valid for the whole length of your study program)
1 passport type photo (meaning the same type of photo of yourself that is in your passport) – 1 soft copy and 1 hard copy
Education in the 2022-2023 academic year will be conducted entirely in person. Regulations may get stricter during the semester if another wave of the pandemic arrives during these months. Therefore, please make sure to have the necessary equipment to attend online / hybrid lectures, such as a laptop, reliable internet connection, webcam and headset.
You have the opportunity to learn the basics of Hungarian language at our Faculty (Hungarian Prep Course).
It is mandatory for the scholarship holders to study Hungarian during their first two semesters. If you miss more than 3 classes in a semester, your scholarship payment will be reduced. If you do not pass the exam at the end of the first academic year, your scholarship payment will amount to 0 until you do.
It is mandatory for IPCV students to study one of the local languages (Hungarian, Spanish or French) for one semester during their program. The chosen language may not be the same as your mother tongue.
You also have the opportunity to improve your English language skills by taking one or more of our English classes. For SH and SCYP students it is mandatory to study English.
Although there is currently no dormitory affiliated with our University, we have collected a set of exciting and reliable housing opportunities. On our website, we recommend you several independent dormitories, hostels, and search engines to find private apartments or flats. While we do our best to help you in finding accommodation, please note that it is your responsibility to arrange accommodation by the time you arrive.
Public transport in Budapest is reliably operated by BKK. It is best to buy a monthly pass for public transport. During the first few weeks you will receive your Hungarian student ID card which entitles you to certain discounts, public transport passes being one of them. We can recommend using the app “Budapest GO” to facilitate your travels across Budapest. For further information on everyday life in Hungary, such as monthly budget, please visit our website.

Application Fee: Self-financed students are required to pay a registration fee of 36 000 HUF to be able to participate in the admission process. For more information, please visit our website.
SH and SCYP scholarship holders: You will get the first two months' (September and October) scholarship grants in one payment, in October. Therefore, please arrange your initial finances accordingly.
IPCV excellence scholarship holders: There is a sum of 40 000 HUF (cc. 100 EUR) to be paid as registration fee. This will be refunded to you upon having spent a month after your enrollment as an active student. Third country nationals can receive the scholarship payment only once their Hungarian residence permit is ready, so please arrange your initial finances accordingly.
EU nationals are entitled to an EHIC in their home country (if they pay social security there). Please obtain your EHIC before coming to Hungary. EHIC gives you access to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare under the same conditions and at the same cost as people insured in Hungary (public healthcare is free in Hungary). Further information available here.
Holders of Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship (SH) / Scholarship for Christian Young People (SCYP) are entitled to Hungarian social security coverage (TAJ card), giving them free access to public healthcare. Besides this, private insurance is offered as well under Generali Insurance Ltd. These insurances are adequate for visa application.
Image Processing and Computer Vision (IPCV) MSc students will be covered by the MARSH Insurance, which is also adequate for visa application.
If you are not entitled to any of the above insurance plans, please make sure to arrange a full coverage health insurance before travelling to Hungary.

International students may now register for Covid-19 vaccine in Hungary.
In order to register, you need your passport number, residence permit number and a Hungarian address. It is also recommended to mention a Hungarian, or at least an EU phone number. If you have a TAJ number, you have to provide that at the registration as well.
If you are already vaccinated, you may apply for booster shots.
Each of you will be assigned a personal mentor, a student who will help with your administrative affairs and getting to know Hungary and Pázmány. Please assist us in finding a mentor suited to you by filling out a short questionnaire latest by the end of June 2022. Your mentor will get in contact with you early summer. If this did not yet happen, please let us know.
You will be able to meet your mentor as soon as you arrive in Hungary. If you have any questions or just reach out to your mentor who will share information about the upcoming events.
Should you have any special circumstance (such as a disability) needing attention, please do not hesitate to let us know.
The University may then allocate a mentor (a fellow student) to you, who can provide individualized
assistance to you. The building of the Faculty is accessible by wheelchair, furthermore,
we offer additional opportunities for digitalization and the possibility to buy special tools and
software.
